About Us

Delegate It Law was created by a lawyer for lawyers. It was created because a once overworked prosecutor, turned overworked civil litigator, turned overworked solo attorney, struggled to find consistent, reliable, and loyal help. This experience sparked the realization that many other solo attorneys and small firms must be facing the same challenges. Thus, Delegate It Law was birthed.

At first, the journey is nice. Being a solo is great. You set your own hours, manage your cases the way you choose, and best of all, you are your own boss. The challenge, however, is finding reliable employees with a strong work ethic that will show up to work, employees that will not ghost you, and who will not bill-and-play on your dime. And even if you get over that hurdle, it can still be hard to find a work-life balance because, after all, your business is your life. It seems the elements of lawyering for your clients, running a business, networking to bring in new clients, and having a life outside of work cannot co-exist.  This is what I set out to change when I created Delegate It Law. I wanted to use my 9 years of experience as a trial attorney and litigator to help solo attorneys and small firms get into the habit of delegating tasks so that they can make more room in their lives for, well, a life.

Thanks to technology, the concept of a work-life balance while running a practice is more attainable now than ever before. The biggest obstacle in reaching this goal, however, is letting go. One of the main reasons we as attorneys cannot relinquish our work to others is because of FOMU (Fear of Messing Up). FOMU stems from one or more of the following ways of thinking: 1. No one can do the work as well as I would; 2. The client is paying me not to mess up their case; 3. I like to be in control and I know everything going on in my cases; and 4. There is a huge amount of pressure on lawyers not to make mistakes (from the Bar, society, the clients, the courts) that I am just better off handling it all myself. Looking at these reasons logically, it does make sense to do the work yourself, however, many successful attorneys have attested to the fact that these are the very reasons why your tasks should be delegated. As one attorney put it, “I was very afraid to let anyone do any work for me, but finally, I gave in. At the very least, if the work were not done exactly how I wanted, I could tweak and correct some things here and there. Either way, it was less work than doing the work from scratch myself, and it saved me lots of time. Having someone draft a complaint or a motion to modify child support was so much easier and gave me more time to do something else or nothing at all.”—R.A.

So what are you waiting for? Don’t let FOMU stop you from growing your practice and taking better control of your work-life balance. Take a look around our website, reach out if you have questions, and start delegating your tasks today!
